Good to know

The house opens into a light-filled living room — vaulted ceiling, tall windows, a white mantel fireplace and a staircase curving up to the landing. The kitchen is the heart of it: farmhouse apron sink, double wall ovens, gas range, French-door fridge and boiling water on tap. A second dining table sits under a chandelier, with bar seating for three and a table for six. Off the kitchen, the family room has a brick corner fireplace, a smart TV and a slider out to the deck. Enjoy some music on the Bose stereo with a collection of classic CD's or connect your phone to the surround sound to play your favorites. Upstairs: four bedrooms and a landing desk nook lit by a skylight. Two kings, a queen, and a kids' room with a full and a twin. Every bed has a bedside charging port and every room has a fan. Please do not touch/use the whole house fan panel located outside the master bedroom. The primary suite has vaulted ceilings, an arched window, its own gas fireplace and sitting area, and an en-suite bath with a soaking tub and separate shower. Outside is the reason you book: a large pool with brick coping, two pergolas, lounge seating, string lights, a solar-heated outdoor shower and open sky.

Other Details to Note

You'll have the main house and the entire backyard to yourselves — pool, deck, both pergolas, the grill and the open lawn area. Self check-in with a smart lock, so arrive whenever your day allows. The kitchen is fully stocked to actually cook in: olive oil, salt, pepper, a full spice rack, coffee beans with a grinder, a good tea selection, foil, wrap and storage containers. Board games, books and a shelf of kids' toys are all yours. Bringing a bigger group? We keep air mattresses on hand — just let us know how many you need and we'll have them ready before you arrive. Two areas are kept locked and aren't part of the rental — the attached garage and the separate studio suite. Everything else is open. The pool is not heated and is best enjoyed spring through fall. The outdoor shower by the pool runs off a solar tank, so it's warmest in the late afternoon after a sunny day and cool first thing in the morning. A pool service visits 1-2 times per week and will need brief access to the backyard for treatment, they will enter through the gate and shouldn't disturb you. All the fireplaces are gas. No wood burning is allowed anywhere on the property. The house sits on a quiet court in a rural residential neighborhood. Sound carries here, so we ask that the pool and outside area stay quiet after 10pm. TVs run on Roku in guest mode — sign into your own streaming accounts, and your logins clear at checkout.

Neighborhood

The wine trail starts at your doorstep. Grapevines went into Placer County soil the same year gold turned up at Sutter's Mill, and the Placer County Wine Trail now runs 20+ family wineries through Auburn, Newcastle, Loomis, Lincoln and Meadow Vista. It's Sierra Foothills AVA country — Rhône, Italian and Spanish styles, with Zinfandel, Syrah, Tempranillo, Garnacha and Cabernet Franc doing the heavy lifting. Closest pours: Viña Castellano, in the hills among farmland and horse ranches, for Spanish varietals. Mt. Vernon Winery, in a restored 1950s milk house and the most-awarded in the county. Fawnridge Winery, family-run, tastings Friday through Sunday. Lone Buffalo Vineyards on Wise Road for Mediterranean and Rhône bottles. Beyond the glass: Old Town Auburn's Gold Rush storefronts and restaurants, and the Auburn State Recreation Area — swimming holes, rafting and 40+ miles of trail where the American River forks.

WHERE YOU'LL STAY

Find us

You'll want a car. The house sits on a quiet residential court in the foothills north of Auburn. Wineries, trailheads, groceries and Old Town are all a short drive, but rideshare can be thin out here — especially after dark and along the wine trail — so set it up in advance. Parking is free and easy: room for several cars in the private driveway. Please only park in the driveway. Flying in: Sacramento International (SMF) is about 37 miles away, roughly 45 minutes on a straight run up I-80. Reno-Tahoe (RNO) is the other option if you're pairing this with a few days in the mountains. By train: Auburn is the eastern end of Amtrak's Capitol Corridor, running through Roseville and Sacramento to Davis, Martinez, Emeryville, Oakland and San Jose. The station is downtown on Nevada Street — easy from the Bay Area, though you'll still want a car here. Winery-hopping? Pick a designated driver or book a local tour — the tasting rooms are spread across several towns.
